Tunisia - September 2012
On a recent trip to Tunisia, I visit El Jem, a Roman Colosseum which is the third largest in the world (following Rome and one in France) and considered to be one of the best preserved. The trip commenced with a visit to a museum, which was sat on the site of an excavated Roman village, where the outlines of the houses are laid out before you and the beautiful Roman mosaics that they unearthed are displayed. The trip them moved onto the imposing Colosseum, which was a sight to behold. It was absolutely fascinating and, thankfully, was not too busy. you could stand in the gladiatorial arena, ascend the steep steps up the where the crowd sat and descend under the arena to where the slaves were kept and the lions, tigers and other animals were kept prior to battle. it was simply an amazing day out and like stepping back in time as my over-active imagination took over. Upon leaving the arena, I took what I consider to be my favourite picture of the holiday - a very candid shot of an old man driving his donkey and cart. To me, that photo encapsulates Tunisia
